This coming Monday August 21st marks the sixth year of celebrating Kia’s Annual Drive Change Day at Performance Kia. What is Drive Change? It’s about each one of us taking the driver’s seat and becoming the change we want to see in the world. Performance Kia President Bruno Niederer says “When we empower ourselves to Drive Change, there is a ripple effect that can move mountains and change lives.”  Since it’s inception, Drive Change Day Food and Donation Drive in support of the Regional Food Distribution Association and United Way Thunder Bay has raised over $112,000 and collected thousands of pounds of non-perishable and perishable food items for the food bank. Monies raised have been used for the purchase of much-needed industrial kitchen equipment such as the large soup kettle, and they are currently fundraising for a large refrigeration unit that can help accommodate the truckloads of fresh produce they will be receiving from all over the county. In any given month the RFDA’s food banks and feeding programs will provide for the needs of over 13,000 people with a hamper containing 3-5 days of food. Over 26,000 meals are also provided in a month. Money raised at Drive Change Day also helps to support 29 agencies and 59 local programs through the United Way’s Community Fund. “United Way’s Community Fund helps hold up a corner of our community, building a better Thunder Bay by supporting programs and initiatives that change lives every day.” Jared Zieroth, Executive Director, United Way Thunder Bay.

Hosted at the local Kia dealership, a call-out to citizens in Thunder Bay and surrounding area for monetary, non-perishable and perishable food items will hit the 91.5CKPR radio airwaves from 6am to 6pm. United Way Thunder Bay will be on-site accepting donations and the RFDA will have their refrigerated truck on-site for the day to collect excess produce from local farmers and avid gardeners. “Nothing goes to waste in our kitchen” says RFDA Director Volker Kromm. Donators are also rewarded with a ballot for their chance to win 2 tickets to Katy Perry in Minneapolis on December 1st. “We’ve also added some fun activities to happen throughout the course of the day here at the dealership. Donators can participate in Kia Karaoke with Laura of 91.5 CKPR’s Morning Show to receive prizes plus we have hourly giveaways from local merchants,” explains Dealer Principal Kevin French.

Monetary donations are accepted at this secure online link at uwaytbay.ca
